WORKING Loft Jacket | Nantucket

€670.00

‘Loft’ refers both to the sandwiched fabric construction and its namesake – an old word for the skies or heavens, as well as an attic where you might find an interesting old jacket. The triple-layered sandwich structure features Italian Majocchi high-tension polyester-cotton gabardine, raw organic cotton open-cell mesh, and peach-finished cotton oxford. Together, they create the quilted texture of a down jacket without the thickness or heat (like the Drone Jacket).

The Loft Jacket blends a mix of design influences: mesh-filled RAF cold weather jackets, classic rainwear, and refined smoking jackets. Its overlapping back seam – a WORKING signature – is adapted from bib overalls and the cuffs of vintage Lee chore coats. It features two flap pockets and buttons made from cellulose acetate derived from recycled cigarette filters.

Garment dyeing fully saturates the cotton lining and sewing threads, but only colours the cotton fibres within the blended gabardine. The polyester fibres remain olive green, resulting in a distinctive mottled look reminiscent of covert cloth or marl jersey. During the dyeing, the sandwiched organic cotton middle layer shrinks, subtly pulling the garment together; with wear it gradually relaxes and moulds to the shape of the wearer.

  • Made in England

  • Majocchi fabric made in Italy

  • Outer: 65% polyester 35% cotton

  • Middle: 100% organic cotton

  • Liner: 100% cotton

  • Cellulose acetate buttons

WORKING is a collaborative brand by William Kroll (Tender Co.) and Robert Newman (Middle Distance, Massimo Osti Studio, Stone Island and CP Company). Operating from their studios in Glasgow, Scotland, and Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, they combine their distinct approaches to design and production; exploring each other’s perspectives on fabrics, art and design history, uniform construction, and an expanded interpretation of workwear. WORKING garments are crafted in very limited quantities in England and Japan.
