Once again Tender creates the ultimate shirt that’s just so easy and effortless, from the colour to the fabric and fit. 

We’ll start with the colour of this shirt which is called Brown Hat. It’s a seasonal hadal dye from Tender that came about from thinking about the colour choice back to front - rather than choosing a Pantone colour and asking the dye house to match it, William described the deep brown hue and this was the result. And hats off to William because the colour is sensational - it goes with everything from black to navy, white and cream. 

The shirt itself is cut as a T shape with horizontal shoulders and very wide sleeves. The sewing technique creates an isosceles triangle with its apex at the neck and its base at the cuff. Large pockets are sewn at the front and the sleeves are finished without openings so this style also works well as a lightweight jacket. Honestly the shape of this shirt is everything and we love the crinkled stand collar which is a Tender classic.

For this one, Tender opted for a cotton sheeting fabric woven in the US with ecru warp and weft yarns that are usually for end uses like lightweight dust sheets and storage coverings - instead Tender found another life for it as a shirt. It’s a plain weave, similar in weight to the UK-woven calico, with a slightly mottled surface texture which came about during the washing and dying of this unsanforized fabric. The fabric is cut sideways and sewn in the USA with 100% cotton thread. Galloons are fastened with custom-made oversized black ‘jigger’ buttons (flat two hole buttons designed to support a more decorative button from behind a soft fabric).

Tender specialises in rare techniques to produce very unique garments often using deadstock fabrics and natural dyes. All products are made in small runs. Tender garments have all been made in England until the brand relocated in 2025, shifting production to USA. Due to the engineering and ‘slow’ ethos behind the construction, each item can differ to the next, for a truly special piece.
